Ben,

We are up again early this morning to head to Switzerland. This is the trip that Matt has been looking forward to the most! It is our one year anniversary weekend too, so we both have high hopes for the trip. We arrive in Geneva at 9:05AM and rent a car from Budget. When we get to the rental desk, there is an altercation going on between the employees and a customer at the desk. They are both screaming and cursing at each other and we are not really sure what we have gotten ourselves into. Eventually, the police are called (seriously, it was that bad), but by the time they showed Matt and I had the car keys and were out of there.

From the airport, we take a road that hugs Lake Geneva towards the Swiss Alps. The countryside is breathtaking and covered in vineyards.
Europe 079
First stop, Chateau Chillon outside of Montreux, a castle on Lake Geneva. I haven’t seen too many Castles, but Matt has and he said this one by far was better than any other he has seen.

As we leave Montreux, we head into the Alps and I can’t even explain how beautiful the landscape is…

I was behind the wheel (another manual) and it was one of those roads that eats into the side of the mountain on one side and drops straight off on the other. I was so nervous, but it was completely worth it! Next stop was Gstaad, a small ski village on the way to Interlaken. Again, breathtaking…

We stop here for lunch, a traditional Swiss dish, a thick slice of bread smothered in cheese in a skillet. Their version of a grilled cheese sandwich J

Oh, how could I have forgotten? While driving, we were stopped by a group of cow herders (I guess)… We had to pull over onto the sidewalk so that they could get past. The whole time, laughing and asking ourselves if this was really happening!

We finally make it to Interlaken, set deep into the Alps, and check into our hotel. The view from our balcony is, well….
Europe 134
We planned on having fondue for dinner, but after lunch we settled for Hooters. That’s right, Interlaken Switzerland has a Hooters!! And the University of North Carolina basketball team was there eating! After dinner and a couple of drinks, Matt and I head to the casino to try our luck…
Europe 145
We try blackjack, roulette, and a couple of slots, but end up coming out even.
